2007 Gift Cards over $97 billion

A massive industry just getting bigger in gift cards!

It is always shocking to see how big the gift card industry is. I am knee deep in it so I don't always see the grass grow. To hear that gift card spending was over over $97 billion is simply shocking.

I am very familiar with the online advertising space. In that space we are super proud that display advertising is becoming a $10 billion dollar industry. Well, Gift Cards simply dwarf online advertising and many other verticals. Gift Cards are a monster business.

The interesting thing to notice is that gift cards still do not have one dominant player. Consumers are still choosing to get gift cards from the store that they choose instead of a master card of some sort. We have to imagine that the offices at visa, mastercard and american express are crammed with late night meetings focused on how to own the space entirely. With $97 billion up for grabs in the gift card industry you can not blame them!
