$14 billion in growth from 2010 in two years for gift cards

Witht the help of tighter definitions and a growing economy, the gift card economy will cross the $50 billion mark in 2012. This is a massive number. We are very glad to be a small player in the world of gift cards. Gift cards are clearly the hottest and fastest growing part of the shopping world.

Gift Cards are the largest portion of the $81 billion dollars associated with closed loop segment of the prepaid card market. Gift Cards are no longer simply locked in with the closed loop segment. Standing on their own, the gift cards represent well over 50% of this segment.

It is no surprise that gift cards are seeing such massive growth. The gift cards are loved by the end users for gifting and for themselves. However, gift cards are also huge revenue drivers for the merchants, the banks and the companies that process the gift cards. This is a perfect storm and the gift cards are riding it all the way to $52 billion in 2012!
