Hawaiian Charity Event

In recent weeks, we’ve heard much about gift cards being used to entice consumers to action. 

This has included gift card rewards programs along with gift card contests just to name a few.

A recent event in Hawaii took philanthropy to a new level and they did so with the help of a local grocery store’s gift card.  The Visitor Industry Charity Walk is an annual fundraising event on the island of Kauai.

The second and third place money-raisers receive an interesting prize.  This year, the winners earned a $500 shopping spree at a local grocery store.  But there was a catch: the closest to $500 without going over would win an addition $250 gift card.

Max Klutke, who spent a few lunch hours scouting the store before the event, grabbed enough to total $498.  Though this feat seems easy enough, the competitors were only allowed 3 minutes, no cart, and could only take up to two of any given item.

Klutke’s competitor, David Mona, wasn’t fortunate enough to check the store out prior to the spree and was only able to round up $270 worth of goods.
