A New Gift Card Exchange Program Comes to Florida

A few months ago, a new trend emerged in parts of the US. 

Gift cards for guns exchanges began occurring. 

The response was so overwhelmingly good to those programs that another program has just begun.

In Flagler County, Florida, the Sheriffs department is now offering $10 gift cards in exchange for outdated prescription medication.  The sheriffs office says when prescriptions expire, most people tend to just flush them down the toilet.

This can create many problems in the local water supply and aquifer.  But a bigger problem looms which the sheriff hopes to curb before it can really get going.  The sheriff’s office wants to keep the drugs out of the hands of high school kids who may use them recreationally.

Abuse of prescription drugs has increased lately and the county is hoping to counter that trend. Chantelle Waters, from the Focus on Flagler Youth Coalition, wants county residents to know that the gift card exchange program is on a per person basis, not a per bottle one.
