Target's New Gift Card Offer

Target, one of the nation’s largest retailers, has hopped on the latest bandwagon. 

They have begun to use gift cards as a way to entice customers into their stores. 

Many other companies have been using gift cards lately to keep past customers loyal and to create new ones.  American automakers, for example, have begun to offer customers $50 gift cards for taking a test drive.

Target’s latest move involves video games.  When a customer comes in to pre-order a new video game, they are given a card to present when they make the purchase.  As long as they make the purchase within seven days of the video game’s release, they are given a $5 Target gift card.

This is a first for Target and it will be interesting to see how this marketing ploy works.  If it does well, Target may begin making similar offers for other purchases.  Other retailers not already involved in such a program will likely follow suit.
