Chinese Hackers Crack Apple Algorithm

Hackers in China recently cracked the Apple iTunes Gift Card algorithm. 

Gift certificates worth $200 are selling for as little as three dollars.

For Chinese consumers, the purchase process seems simple enough.  Find an online seller, negotiate the amount to purchase, and then pay the seller through whichever online pay service he chooses to use.

Once the seller has been paid, they send a gift voucher code that the buyer takes directly to their iTunes account.  The seller interviewed for this article admitted to paying hackers for the use of their iTunes gift card generators.

In China, hacking seems to be the norm rather than the exception.  With a serious lack of anti-piracy laws, the Apple iTunes gift card may become exploited overseas.  It is unknown at this point what steps Apple has taken to combat the problem.
