Dell Exchange: Gift Cards For Old Gadgets!

Do you have a box of outdated or unused electronics gear gathering dust?

If you’re anything like me, you do!  Sure, you could just recycle the stuff, but why not get something in return?

Dell will recycle it for you safely (or reuse it, if possible) and give you a gift card for new stuff.  Dell Exchange was initially soft-launched as a pilot program in November 2008 and the free online trade-in system is now available to U.S. consumers at www.dell.com/tradein.

The exchange process is relatively simple and pain free: Select a category and input the required information such as condition, internal specs, model number, etc. and then view your instant Dell Exchange quote.  Once you accept the quote, you will be prompted to set up a personal trade-in account, print a free shipping label and mail in your items. Dell then mails you a gift card and even provides an option to wipe confidential information off your system (though a $15 service fee will be deducted for that extra step)!

Programs such as this helped the company reach its recycling goals early: In 2007, Dell pledged to recycle 275 million pounds of equipment by 2009 and did so.  Dell Exchange will help those numbers grow in coming years!
