The Web is full of Websites dedicated to selling Gift Cards

Know that a gift card you give can be sold or traded

The Internet has opened markets for thousands of products that likely could not have existed before it was around. A great example of this are the tens (or hundreds) of websites that have eveloved recently around gift card trading and selling. While we here at GiftCertificateGuide do not have a way on our site to enable selling or trading gift cards, we do think it is important to make people aware that they exist.

From a giver's point of view, you should know that a person could actually take your $300 iTunes gift card or $500 Eastbay gift card and go sell these online for a bit less than their value. While this should come at no big surprise (I am sure this has happened on Craigslist for years) it is a bit interesting to see hundreds of sites committed to the practice.

From a recipients point of view, if you have been gifted a gift card that can not be redeemed for cash (most gift cards) and you are not happy with the merchant you should know that you have recourse. You can trade your card for another from a merchant more to your liking or you can sell the gift card.

Gift Cards and gift certificates are a massive insustry (well over 30 billion a year). We should be ready for many more cottage industries to evolve out of gift cards.
