Kmart extended an olive branch to consumers by offering to give back money lost in dormancy fees for gift cards. This is a big win for the buyers of gift cards and frankly a needed step from a big merchant. There is no doubt that this is the way things are going. Expiration dates on gift cards are too dangerous and can erode all trust that is established. Gift card expirations hurts the brand far more than they help the company by keeping one hundred dollars here and there.
