Gift Cards and music have went hand in hand for years. The gift cards to music stores were popular long before the internet and the latest gift card craze. That being said, the best music gift cards now are no longer to stores like Tower or other big old record stores. The days of the big record stores are over. There are cool local record stors that have great gift cards like Easy Street records in Seattle but now it is probably best to gift an iTunes gift card or a Zune gift card.
iTunes has a majority of the market in terms of online music so giving an itunes gift card is very safe and in turn it could prove to be the best. I am however, a huge fan of the Zune and their approach so I would like to suggest a Zune gift card. Zune has a major lead over iTunes in that it has a subscription product.
I do not know which music gift card is the best but I would say you can not go wrong if you choose to give one from iTunes or Zune. Rock on!
