You can tell by the name of our site that at one time Gift Certificates were the primary term and vehicle used in the industry but all research suggests that the term is going the way of the dinasours. The most compelling evidence to suggest that the term "Gift Card" will soon eliminate "Gift Certificates" entirely is seen within google search terms.
The terms "buy gift cards", "restaurant gift cards" and more recieve at least ten times more searches every day than "buy gift certificates" and more.
The other sign that seems to indicate the dominance of "gift cards" is that any new merchants (established over the last 5-10 years) has only references to gift cards on their website. Put it this way, you can't guy an iTunes Gift Certificate or a Zune Gift Certificate. For the cutting edge merchants of the world the language is all around gift cards.
So, let's not plan the funeral yet for "gift certificates" but we may want to start thinking about the guest list. Tell me I am wrong. I would love to be. Are their certian industries that have stuck with "gift certificates"? Does anyone want to sell me the URL giftcardguide?
