Remember, that the $5 does not go to the value of the gift card - it is simply the price it costs you to buy one. Is this a rip off? Hard to know. What is the value of convenience. Visa gift cards can be used anywhere that visa credit cards can be used unless an imprint is needed. There are hundreds of reasons that giving a visa gift card makes sense. I am sure we all wish the "entry" fee was a bit less but I am also sure that there are some cheaper cards to buy. However, they will not be accepted everywhere that the visa gift cards are.
